My experience with AIH

By Sandy, Autoimmune hepatitis, United States, February 28, 2019

I am 35 years old. I have had autoimmune Hepatitis (AHI) for over 9 years. Awareness in AHI is important because some of the symptoms get overlooked. In my case, I was always tired, sleepy and not hungry. At first I thought it was due to my busy schedule. But then my body got very itchy and my eyes turn yellow. I had different test done but the only thing that diagnosed my AIH was a liver biopsy. Prednisone and Azathioprine are the medicines that have keep my liver stable.  The fact that I have AIH hasn't stopped me from living a normal life. I was able to have a successful pregnancy without complications. AIH is a rare disease but through sharing and awareness it may be better understood.
