I fought Aplastic Anemia and won!

The story of Sophia

On October 30, 2013 I was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia, a rare disease in which there is a total failure of the bone marrow. I consider myself lucky because living in New York and having private health insurance meant I had access to quality medical care. The doctors diagnosed me within a week. They had a hematologist/oncologist that have treated my illness. I had insurance to cover the hospitalizations and drug therapy I needed to save my life. I was declared in remission November 19, 2015. I owe my life to God, family, firends and the amazing staff at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. A special shout out to Dr. Sangmin Lee and every nurse, aide, phlebotomist, and visiting nurse who treated me with respect and care. Please support all efforts to get rare diseases out in the public eye including pushing for research and treatment access for all who are living with rare diseases
