The story of Martha
Sweet Emmy Lou is my 4 1/2 year-old granddaughter and an absolute blessing! While visiting her nephrologist, he discovered an issue with her heart. Just before turning 4 months she underwent open-heart surgery at St. Louis Children’s Hospital for coarctation of her aorta. As she had only one functioning kidney as well, the nephrologist and cardiologist suggested genetic testing. Then began the Williams Syndrome journey.
Emmy is blessed with an amazing mama and daddy, older brother Jack, and little twin siblings Hazel snd Woods. They are an unbelievable family unit.
As with all WS children, Emmy has had hurdles to overcome, with many more to follow. But she’s a fighter and has come so far in her 4 1/2 years! She knows no stranger and loves music. And snow. And swimming! She also loves to do different voices and practice her “mood” faces in the mirrowr!
We all could not imagine life without her. And her smile…it could melt the polar ice caps.
