The story of Benjamin
Benjamin was diagnosed with LEPR (Leptin Receptor Deficiency) at just two years old. Ben was born 8lbs, but was constantly hungry and gaining weight at a rate that exceeded his food intake.
Once diagnosed with LEPR, we understood better that Ben’s brain does not process the feeling of being full, or recognize that he is being fed, which causes the constant weight gain regardless of what he eats.
There is currently no treatment, although we are working to get him into a trial of medicine that may help.
Ben is an active three year old, who adores his big sister, loves playing outside, and will rarely be found sitting still.
