Description

In a heartfelt call for unity and awareness, Patrick Toland, CEO of the Northern Ireland Rare Disease Partnership (NIRDP), has passionately urged the people of Northern Ireland to join the Global Chain of Lights on Rare Disease Day, February 29, 2024. This unique event symbolizes a worldwide movement of support for those affected by rare diseases, encouraging communities to illuminate their homes with the vibrant colours of the Rare Disease Day campaign. Toland emphasizes the importance of everyone’s participation, stating, “This is a moment for all of us in Northern Ireland to stand together in solidarity. By lighting up our homes, we’re not just brightening a window, we’re illuminating the challenges faced by those with rare diseases and spreading a message of hope and unity.”
“Let your creativity shine with garlands, candles, disco lamps, and colourful decorations. Take a picture with your illuminations and share it on social media using the tags #rarediseaseday and #LightUpForRare,” he urges. This initiative aims to create a dazzling display of green, purple and pink support that reaches far and wide, encouraging a sense of community and understanding for those living with rare diseases. Toland’s message is clear: “Everyone can participate, everyone can make a difference. Share your colours, light up for rare!” This campaign represents a beacon of hope, highlighting the power of community in addressing the challenges faced by individuals with rare diseases.
