Description

Rare disease day in Iceland

To honor rare disease patients all over the world Perlan Museum together with Gódvild will light up Perlan in the colors of Rare Disease Day this weekend.

Rare Disease Day takes place on the last day of February each year. The main objective of Rare Disease Day is to raise awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients’ lives.

Building awareness of rare diseases is so important because 1 in 20 people will live with a rare disease at some point in their life. Despite this, there is no cure for the majority of rare diseases and many go undiagnosed. Rare Disease Day improves knowledge amongst the general public of rare diseases while encouraging researchers and decision makers to address the needs of those living with rare diseases.

Perlan – Wonders of Iceland provides deep insight into Iceland’s unique nature. The latest science, and the best museum artists and technologists have joined forces to create truly amazing exhibition.

Gódvild is a non profit organisation with focus on children with long term illness and disabilities in Iceland. Gódvild helps families with everyday struggles and raises awareness of children with long term illness and disabilities by producing talk shows with focus on the care and service for this group of children. The show is available on Iceland´s larges media platform visir.is and also on all major podcast stations and is called Spjallið með Góðvild.
