Please Help Baby Chiko (Biliary Atresia Patient)

The story of Carol

We are Gino Lino J. Gumban and Carol Jeanette V. Gumban, parents of 2-year old Haley Ariela and 1-year old Marcus Paul, fondly called ‘Baby Chiko’ by many who have gotten to know him on Facebook. Our baby son has a liver condition called Biliary Atresia. Biliary Atresia is a life-threatening condition in infants in which the bile ducts inside or outside the liver do not have normal openings.
Baby Chiko was born last November 24, 2013. To the best of our knowledge and observation, he was a very healthy and happy baby boy since birth. However, last January when he was turning 2 months old, we noticed he had signs of jaundice and so we brought him to his pediatrician for check-up. He underwent some special tests and on Feb 9. 2014, our son was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia. Further tests revealed that because he is almost 3 months old, a surgical operation called the Kasai procedure alone is not enough to save him. Baby Chiko needs a liver transplant procedure before it completely deteriorates.

In lieu of this, we wish to make an appeal to you and ask your generous hearts for assistance. Our goal is to raise P4,000,000.00 which includes the transplant costs and medical operation fees for both the patient and the organ donor. Any amount is appreciated.
Attached are Chiko’s clinical summary and liver biopsy which both suggest the need for liver transplant. We have also included a short fact sheet about Biliary Atresia to help you learn more about our baby’s condition and how he can be saved from it.
We appreciate your time in reading and responding to this letter. Our fundraising campaign can be found on Facebook.com/helpbabychiko.
We trust in your complete understanding and compassion and will be forever grateful for your kind help which will save the life of our precious little boy, Baby Chiko. Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely yours,
Gino Lino J. Gumban and Carol Jeanette V. Gumban
