Living with mastocytosis

The story of Cathy

Recently my dermatologist diagnosed me with mastocytosis. Mastocytosis is a disease in which your body produces too many mast cells so that you are constantly in an allergic state. In severe cases, the disease goes systemic and can attack your internal organs. It is a bit scary living with the disease because you never know if you are going to go into anaphalactic shock. There is no cure for the disease and it is difficult finding out much about it because it is a rare disease and does not attract much attention. Perhaps this Rare Disease Day will help get the word out.
