The story of Gisela
The following story is not about me, it is about my 7 year old daughter. Her name is Ana. She was diagnosed at the age of 5 with Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM). JDM causes the body’s immune system to attack blood vessels throughout the body, causing an inflammation called vasculitis. It results in muscle weakness among other complications. Causes are unknown. There’s no cure at the moment. We are fighting to make this disease visible. We are fighting to find a cure. A cure would be a dream come true! In Spain, there are currently 29 people affected but only in Catalonia. We are sure there are more cases in the country but it is a difficult disease to diagnose. The few families affected from this disease wish to meet other families in Spain and in Europe, who are suffering from the same. This would be the first step in creating a community of families with the goal of increasing JDM awareness.
