Rare Disease Day in Romania
The Rare Disease Day campaign began in Romania in 2008. Each year, patient organisations organise marches, conferences and the distribution of flyers to promote and raise awareness about rare diseases all across the country. In 2017 in Arad, 5 000 people arranged themselves in the shape of a giant hand to celebrate the day.
In 2018, Rare Disease Day in Romania was also celebrated with a wide variety of events. A painting exhibition called ‘Captive in my Body’ tried to fight the prejudice that people living with a rare disease can experience and highlight the inner strength of those affected. In addition, there was a round table discussion and a press conference, as well as training days for health professionals focusing specifically on fast diagnoses.
