Rare Disease Day in New Zealand
New Zealand’s participation in Rare Disease Day goes back to 2010. Since then, patient associations from New Zealand have used the occasion to educate the public and raise money through fundraising events. Previous highlights of Rare Disease Day in New Zealand include a photo competition, a run around the Bays of Auckland and a cocktail evening in Wellington.
To mark Rare Disease Day 2018, there was a symposium focusing on enabling clinicians, researchers and patients to work together to optimise progress. There was also a morning ‘Tea and Tales’ event where creative works exploring different perspectives on rare diseases were read aloud.
