Rare Disease Day in Georgia
Georgia first became involved with Rare Disease Day in 2010. Over the years, rare disease conferences have been planned to coincide with the day, and the former First Lady of Georgia, Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs, has been extremely active in her support for the campaign.
In 2019, Tbilisi was home to Georgia’s annual press conference where policy makers, medical professionals and patients are invited to hear the current situation of the rare disease sector regarding successes and areas that need addressing. In addtion, an essay contest on the theme of 'biomarkers in the diagnosis of rare diseases' for medical students took place.
