Rare Disease Day in Brazil
Brazil first participated in Rare Disease Day in 2010. Over the years, celebrations have extended throughout the entire week leading up to Rare Disease Day to raise support and awareness for rare disease patients. Highlights have included the march for Rare Diseases, the airing of a television documentary on rare diseases and even Zumba classes. There have also been events offering glucose tests and the opportunity to register to donate bone marrow.
Rare Disease Day 2019 included recognition by the House of Representatives and during national television broadcasts. A photographic exhibition highlighted the characteristics of rare diseases to promote awareness and prevent misdiagnosis. Events with face paint, balloons and music were also a highlight of the celebrations in Brazil.
