Rare Disease Day in Brazil
Brazil first participated in Rare Disease Day in 2010. Over the years, celebrations have extended throughout the entire week leading up to Rare Disease Day to raise support and awareness for rare disease patients. Highlights have included the march for Rare Diseases, the airing of a television documentary on rare diseases and even Zumba classes. There have also been events offering glucose tests and the opportunity to register to donate bone marrow.
A talk in 2018 addressed the theme of patients as proactive participants in research. 2018 was also the third edition of ‘Brazilian’s Outlook of Rare Disorders’. Events with face paint and balloon were a highlight of the celebrations in Brazil.
