Rare Disease Day in Australia
Australia first participated in Rare Disease Day in 2009 and have since hosted many exciting events to raise awareness among the general public.
In 2017, events were held all over the country from Perth to Melbourne to Sydney. They ranged from a bake sale in Blacktown to a high tea in Brisbane, and from an Indian dancing event in Newcastle to a fun run and walk along the beautiful Cairns foreshore. Seminars were held in Melbourne, Newcastle and Perth, while online events such as a silent art auction and a nail-decorating party enabled people living with rare diseases to join in from home. Rare Voices Australia, the national rare disease alliance, organised a panel discussion in Sydney.
