Malaysia’s patient organisations first joined Rare Disease Day in 2010. Over the years, they have organised a variety of events, from exhibits to information sessions focused on rare diseases. A highlight of previous celebrations was a dance competition followed by balloon animals and goodie bags in 2015.
In 2020 Malaysia held a poster exhibition at the University of Malaya Medical centre as well as interviews with national television and radio stations. Social media was used to spread awareness and promote the message of Rare Disease Day 2020.
