Ireland first participated in Rare Disease Day in 2008. Over the years, patient organisations have held public information days and conferences to bring together all patient organisations across the country.
Rare Disease Day 2020 was celebrated with the launch of the new rare disease guide which includes stories of living with rare diseases, statistics and information accessible to everyone in Ireland. In addition a conference, poster competition, meet-up and an annual ball were held to mark the occasion.
