Cyprus

Cyprus patient organisations joined Rare Disease Day in its second year, in 2009. Participants have used the day to successfully engage the media in press conferences and therefore increase awareness in the general public. A previous highlight was in 2016 when children living with rare diseases accompanied football players onto the pitch holding a poster, which read ‘Nature made me rare, you can make me strong.’

Rare Disease Day 2020 saw a vast number of events taking place across Cyprus. CARD (Cyprus Alliance for Rare Diseases) hosted a multi-stakeholder seminar and traditional cypriot night with music to raise awareness for rare diseases. It saw the 5th consecutive year of the ‘wear that you care’ campaign in over 280 schools. There were storytelling and rare disease biography reading sessions as well as the ‘Unlimited Possibilities’ photographic project and exhibition.
