China first celebrated Rare Disease Day in 2009 and has a reached a wide audience ever since: a national publicity campaign impacted over 1 million people, summits have gathered over 200 specialists on rare diseases, and advocacy activities have taken place across the country. A particular highlight was the 2016 Chinese Rare Disease Day video called ‘Grateful to have you’.
In 2020 Rare Disease Day saw the “300 Million Thanks” event across China. The message of love is strong and never ‘rare’ was shared nationally through videos, articles, poems and social media posts. The event paid tribute to all those working in the health sector and members of the rare disease community.
