On 30th September, Muscular Dystrophy Pakistan proudly organized LGMD Awareness Day to raise public awareness and foster community understanding about Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD). This event was part of a global initiative to spotlight the challenges faced by individuals living with LGMD and to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, research, and inclusion.
The event brought together patients, caregivers, medical professionals, researchers, and social advocates from across Pakistan. A series of online and offline activities were conducted, including:
Awareness sessions with healthcare experts who explained the symptoms, diagnosis process, and available management options for LGMD.
Personal stories from people living with LGMD, highlighting their daily struggles and resilience.
Interactive Q&A session to address community questions.
Dissemination of educational materials in Urdu, Sindhi, and English to reach diverse communities.
Social media campaign under the hashtag #LGMDawarenessPK, engaging a wide audience and gaining significant traction.
Muscular Dystrophy Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for inclusive healthcare policies, accessible facilities, and research support for rare diseases in Pakistan.
The event concluded with a call to action, urging policymakers, civil society, and the medical community to collaborate for improved support systems for individuals affected by LGMD.
