RAISING AWARENESS ON RARE DISEASES
28 February 2019 - 02 March 2019
Institut Pasteur de Tunis & Science City in Tunis, Tunis, Tunisia
Hosted by Arab German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities
The idea of this project has been presented by Dr Olfa Messaoud, a researcher in the laboratory of Biomedical Genomics and Oncogenetics at Institut Pasteur de Tunis and a new member of the Arab German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities, during the session "idea Competeition" in October 28th, 2018. The idea won the first prize, an amount of 25000 euros to organize the event. The goal is to raise awareness of health care professionals, decision makers and general public and civil society organizations on rare diseases: their burden, their impact on the patient and their families, on the health system and on all the society components. For this, we plan to organize a three-day workshop. The first day will be dedicated to public health professionals (physicians, geneticists, medical students,..). The second day will be dedicated to the general public by engaging patient’s support groups and other related disciplines. The third day will be dedicated to laboratory visits to familiarize students with research performed on rare diseases. This will be a major event in Tunisia and in the MENA region to celebrate the world rare disease day for 2019.
