Viver com doença rara | Living with Rare Disease
28 February 2019
Pavilhão Centro de Portugal, Rua da Lousã, Coimbra, Coimbra
Hosted by Laboratório BioMedicina Mitocondrial e Teranóstica - CNC e FMUC, Universidade de Coimbra
No disease is so rare that it is undeserving of the cause being discovered and a treatment found! Once upon a time, a mother who has a healthy son embraced the mission of helping people suffering from rare diseases: mitochondrial cytopathies (body’s energy production deficit). The Laboratory of Mitochondrial BioMedicine and Theranostics (LBioMiT, University of Coimbra), founded in March 1995, has a team dedicated to patients with the mission of developing biochemical and genetic tests for translational research and diagnostics, in particular mitochondrial cytopathies.
The Classical Orchestra of the Center (OCC) counts with 18 years of uninterrupted work, and has partnered several times with LBioMiT. In such a partnership, a program is presented, set to run from October 2018 to April 2019, with the designation COLmusic, with 6 colloquia, connected by Science and Music Communication. The next will celebrate Rare Disease Day with the theme "Living with Rare Disease", with the participation of Prof. Dr. Manuela Grazina as commentator, and lecturer Prof. Dr. Luísa Diogo, Coordinator of the Center's Reference Center on Hereditary Metabolism Diseases. The event will take place at Pavilhão Centro de Portugal, in Coimbra; on February 28th, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. Each of us alone is rare. Together, we will be more, better and able to go further!
