Concerto Prestígio - As mulheres na Ciência - Manuela Grazina
23 February 2019
Pavilhão Centro de Portugal, Rua da Lousã, Coimbra, Portugal, Coimbra, Portugal
Hosted by Laboratório BioMedicina Mitocondrial e Teranóstica - CNC e FMUC, Universidade de Coimbra
No disease is so rare that it is undeserving of the cause being discovered and a treatment found! Once upon a time, a mother who has a healthy son (Professor Manuela Grazina) embraced the mission of helping people suffering from rare diseases: mitochondrial cytopathies, where there is a body’s energy production deficit. The Laboratory of Mitochondrial BioMedicine and Theranostics (LBioMiT, University of Coimbra), founded in March 1995, has a team dedicated to patients with the mission of developing biochemical and genetic tests for translational research and diagnostics, in particular mitochondrial cytopathies.
The Classical Orchestra of the Center (OCC) counts with 18 years of uninterrupted work, and has partnered several times with LBioMiT in many events and fundraisings. OCC also develops a series of concerts, honoring people and/or Institutions that stand out in the social, scientific, philatronpic fields or other. Now, it presents the Prestige Concert "Women in Science", dedicated to Professor Manuela Grazina, showcasing her scientific career and accomplishments, which are recognized both nationally and internationally. The event will be held at the Pavilhão Centro de Portugal, in Coimbra (17h30, 23-02-2017, celebrating Rare Disease Day a few days ahead).
Each of us alone is rare. Together, we will be more, better and able to go further!
