National Rare Disease Week #CareForRarePH
23 February 2020 - 29 February 2020
Hosted by Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders
ABOUT NATIONAL RARE DISEASE WEEK
On February 23-29, the Philippines will be celebrating the 11th National Rare Disease Week. Together with the rest of the world, the country will also observe 13th International Rare Disease Day on February 29 with the theme “Rare is Many. Rare is Strong. Rare is Proud". The theme marks the shift of the global campaign towards increasing equity for the rare disease community. This year's message reframes perceptions of what it means to be ‘rare’ so that no one is left behind in achieving greater equity. Being rare does not mean being scarce. Being rare does not mean being voiceless. We need society to understand that millions of people living with a rare disease around the world face inequitable access to diagnosis, treatment and care.
ABOUT WORLD BIRTH DEFECTS DAY - Philippines
Held every 3rd day of March, WorldBDday is a global campaign launched in 2015 which aims to raise awareness on birth defects and expand birth defects surveillance, prevention, care, and research worldwide. The global campaign was officially welcomed in the Philippines in 2016 through the collaborative efforts of the members of the WorldBDdayPHL Secretariat. The secretariat is composed of the Institute of Human Genetics-NIH, University of the Philippines Manila, Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health-Philippines, Newborn Screening Reference Center-NIH, UP Manila, and the country's Newborn Screening Centers.
