Description

The Zebra 5K Run/Walk is an in person or virtual 5K run OR walk! It will take place to mark Rare Disease Day.

Why a Zebra? The Zebra is the official symbol of rare diseases in the United States… currently over 10,000 unique diseases!

WHO WE HELP: The Zebra 5k Run/Walk benefits the greater rare disease community. There are nearly 10,000 diseases considered “rare,” and approximately 1 in 10 Americans are living with one of these rare diseases or disorders. Help raise awareness for these patients and their families by participating in our in person and/or virtual 5K run/walk. Your support will benefit Avery’s Hope (find out more about the work Avery’s Hope does for children living “rare” at www.averys-hope.org; have a look at our Hope Fund with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia – it’s so big they named the fund after us!), Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Texas Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These institutions and our program provides financial assistance to rare disease patients and their families who have exhausted all financial alternatives on their journey to receiving their child’s rare diagnosis. The Zebra 5K specifically benefits the GI or related Nutrition Department’s at these hospitals who provide care and financial assistance to pediatric patients with GI issues as a result of treatment or disease.

WHO ARE WE? The New Hope Run Club is a running and movement group located in New Hope, PA. We’re sponsoring this run and hosting the in-person portion of the run (find us on Facebook or at www.newhoperunclub.com). We’ve partnered with Avery’s Hope to do our part in supporting the rare disease community and raise money and awareness for this great cause.
