Raising the Awareness: Prevention of Rare Diseases

This year, the above will be the theme of Indian Organisation for Rare Diseases (IORD) annual event to mark the International Rare Disease Day in Hyderabad, India.

The event - slated on 28 February in Hyderabad - will bring together Rare Disease Patients, Patients’ Organizations, Healthcare Experts, Academia, Civil Society and Policy Makers on one Platform to Brainstorm & analyse the latest Rare Disease Policy-2020 released by the Indian health ministry in January 2020.

This event will also be an occasion to exchange knowledge among different stakeholders battling various issues connected to rare diseases in India.

In the recent past, IORD Stirred the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, into action when it came out with India’s first official National Policy for Treatment of Rare Diseases in 2017 before it was again revamped in 2020.

The 36-page document acknowledges Indian Organization for Rare Diseases (I-ORD) white paper A Journey Together: Rare Diseases and Orphan Products in India (2015 released) in its list of references (see 12th reference)
