Wear that you Care
28 February 2019
Hosted by Pancyprian Association for Rare Genetic Diseases "Unique Smiles"
Unique Smiles for the fourth year and with the corporation of the Ministry of Education, has invited all the public and private schools of Cyprus to be part of the Rare Disease Day and entering the “Wear the you care” event. More than 240 private and public schools are participating this year and the children will be wearing their jeans, as a symbol of genes.
This is not part of the Blue Ribbon event. We do not fundraise. The purpose of the event is towards awareness.
We provide a 10 minute videos, that we have prepared (three different videos according to their age group), with information about Rare Diseases, the status in Cyprus and our Association. It is very important for students of all ages to be aware about rare diseases. As future citizens we are planting the seed of awareness from kindergarten age up to high school students.
We also provide educational material to the schools to be distributed to the families and we encourage them during the class of Biology to dedicate part of the lesson on the field of the genetics. At the end of the day we request from the schools to raise their hands as a support to the Rare and forward the photo material back to us.
Many schools are dedicating their own events that they organise to raise awareness about rare diseases.
