International Day of People with Rare Diseases
The last day of February is considered as a World Rare Diseases Day. The main objective of the initiative is to raise awareness among the general public about rare diseases and their impact on patients and their families. The campaign was created by EURORDIS and its Council of National Associations in 2008. and is gradually becoming a worldwide phenomenon.
Every year, hundreds of cities participate in this large-scale initiative.
The National Alliance of People with Rare Diseases is organizing a series of events across the country. In Plovdiv Medical University of Plovdiv with Department of microbiology and immunology, National Alliance of People with Rare Diseases and HAE Association (Hereditary Angioedema), with the support of His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolai, Plovdiv Municipality, Professional High School of Food Technology and Technics, representatives of patient organizations and friends of their families will mark the event with a manifestation from St. Marina Church to Plovdiv Municipality on 29/02/2020 (Saturday). Exactly at 1 pm, in solidarity with millions of patients around the world, attendees will engage in rasing hands that takes place all over Europe at the same time, and multi-colored balloons symbolizing thousands of rare diseases will be launched into the sky.
