The 45th Athens 21 km Health Road Race supports MDA Hellas.
On the occasion of the Rare Disease Day (28/2) the Finish Liners racing team will give the opportunity to 2 members of MDA Hellas, to take part in the race with special racing wheelchairs. The purpose of the team is the equal integration of people with Neuromuscular Diseases in a sports activity and of course Raising awareness for the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease, their families and carers.
In its 22 years of operation, The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Greece (MDA Hellas) has helped its Members to deal with the multiple problems caused by neuromuscular disorders.
MDA Hellas has created and equipped three model clinics in major state-owned hospitals (Athens – Thessalonica – Patras). In this way, a nationwide network has been created, for all people with neuromuscular disorders in Greece, with the aim of providing specialized medical care. At the same time, MDA provides education, training and entertainment, as well as therapeutic exercise, at MDA Hellas House, a specially designed and accessible space in the center of Athens.
These goals have been accomplished mainly thanks to the ongoing support of the private sector: individuals, corporations and foundations. MDA has never received any governmental funding.
Today, MDA Hellas supports more than 1,500 families all over Greece.
