Guinea first participated in Rare Disease Day in 2014. Patient organisations launched a national campaign in 2015 to rare awareness and decrease the stigma surrounding rare diseases.
For Rare Disease Day 2018 part of the celebrations included the opening ceremony of a new centre for young disabled people in Mamou.
