Colombia first took part in Rare Disease Day in 2009, supporting the campaign through the organisation of various events and activities, such as tree planting, public gatherings, and meetings on rare diseases. In previous years symposiums have been held at universities throughout Colombia, from Cali to Medellin, covering a wide range of issues from diagnosis to genetics.
In 2020 there was a master lecture held in Cali on orphan diseases by specialists in pediatrics and medical genetics. Alongside the lecture there was a range of recreational activities for patients and their companions.
