Hall of fame - Prof Robin Anthony Eady, DSc, FRCP, FMedSci

Prof Eady, Emeritus Professor of Experimental Dermatopathology at King’s College London, is being nominated for his lifetime achievements as a pioneer in research into Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and for his major contribution to clinical care.  His early research interests concentrated on diagnosis, instituting the UK specialised clinical and diagnostic service on 1980, which he extended into an international prenatal diagnostic service, arising directly from his basic research.  His research into electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry provided early clues to the causative genes underlying several types of EB.  His contribution was honoured by the naming of the Robin Eady National EB Diagnostic Laboratory in the UK.  He has published over 150 papers on EB and related conditions in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Eady has received numerous awards, including the Sir Archibald Gray Gold medal from the British Association of Dermatologists. He has been an inspiration to generations of EB researchers and clinicians – 4 of his past research fellows are now professors (one is the first professor of molecular dermatology in the UK, another is chairman of a large department in Japan).  Other fellows now head up three of the principal UK EB treatment centres.
