Rare Disease Day in Mexico
Mexico first joined in Rare Disease Day celebrations in 2010. Since then, events have focused on raising awareness among the general public. The awareness campaigns have also been aimed at leaders in the rare disease community, interviewing politicians and health professionals and holding information seminars at universities and hospitals. In 2015, Rare Disease Day was celebrated in more than six cities across the country. A photography exhibit in the House of Representatives called for rare diseases to become more of a social and health priority. There was also a 5K run, multiple research conferences and several press conferences. In Leon, people wore purple to raise awareness for rare diseases and a museum was lit up purple at sundown.
