Rare Disease Day in Cyprus
Cyprus patient organisations joined Rare Disease Day in its second year, in 2009. Participants have used the day to successfully engage the media in press conferences and therefore increase awareness in the general public. The highlight of 2016 was when children living with rare diseases accompanied football players onto the pitch holding a poster, which read ‘Nature made me rare you can make me strong.’ They also played a minute-long video to raise awareness of the cause.
The Cyprus Alliance for Rare Disorders (CARD) was founded in 2010 and now comes together as the voice of around 6000 rare disease patients. They can be contacted directly to help you find a patient organisation locally which may have more information about a specific rare disease or disorder. Find their contact information at the bottom of this page.
