Rare Disease Day in Australia
Australia first participated in Rare Disease Day in 2009, hosting many exciting events to raise awareness among the general public.
In 2016, events were held all over the country from Perth to Canberra to Sydney. They ranged from a cocktail event in Melbourne that raised money for rare metabolic diseases to a fun run on the picturesque Cairns Explanade. There was even a 20km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island to raise awareness and funds for Batten Disease.
