Rare Disease Day in Australia

February 29th 2012 marks the 5th World Rare Disease Day, this year’s theme is ‘Solidarity’.

For only the second time in Australia, major organisations supporting rare diseases are coming together to draw attention to people, especially children, living with rare diseases.

1 in 10 Australians will be affected by a rare disease in their lifetime.
That’s up to 2 Million Australians, of which up to 400,000 are children.

World Rare Disease Day is the perfect opportunity to showcase a united front, coordinated approach, and serious support needed for all people, kids and families affected by rare diseases in Australia.”

Australia has developed the website www.rarediseasedayaustralia.com.au  

This website has been developed to share extended information and events around Rare Disease Day in Australia. 

Through this website individuals and families can come together and share their stories, and a place for the public to learn more and show their support to those affected by rare diseases in Australia.
The website is linked to a Rare Disease Day Australia Face Book page to build a forum and supportive community around Australia to promote and build the Australian Rare Disease Day campaign.

The Rare Disease Day Australia website has lots of information on rare diseases, World Rare Disease Day, the organisations that support the day and their events. Please have a look!
