Rare Disease Day in The Philippines

The Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc. (PSOD) is proud to announce the release of Presidential Proclamation 1989 signed by Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo last Feb 8, 2010 declaring the 4th week of February of every year as the “National Rare Disease Week” (please see attached copy of the Presidential Proclamation 1989).

PSOD celebrates the 1st National Rare Disease Week with the theme “Working Together to Care For Rare” with the following activities:
 
1st Family Forum on Rare Diseases. The forum provides the first opportunity to collectively update the parents on available ways of managing the care of rare disease of their child, empower the parents to mobilize themselves to help each other, and be actively involved in PSOD's activities for awareness, patient welfare and fund raising.  Invited also to speak are various government agencies that can potentially provide financial support to families. The Family Forum will held on 21 February 2010, 8:30AM-5:00PM at University of the Philippines (Manila) College of Medicine, co-sponsored by UP-Manila, National Institute of Health, Institute of Human Genetics and Genzyme Philippines.
 
An Awareness Campaign on Rare Diseases and Signature Campaign in Support of a Rare Diseases Act of the Philippines in participating hospitals, schools and organizations on 22-28 February 2010
 
A Tri-Media Campaign during the Rare Disease Week announcing the Presidential Proclamation 1989 and drumming up support for the signature campaign for the enactment of a "Rare Disease Act of the Philippines"
 
PSOD is also sponsoring the movie screening of “Extraordinary Measures” on 10 March 2010, 6:30 PM at Power Plant Cinema, Rockwell, Makati, as an awareness and fundraising activity.
