2010 Rare Disease Day in Bulgaria
In 2010 Rare Disease Day in Bulgaria is being coordinated by the National Alliance of People with Rare Diseases (NAPRD), which is representing more than 25 different rare disease patient organizations. NAPRD was established in 2007 and since then it has been providing support and information to patients and their families, lobbying among the institutions in Bulgaria for more adequate actions in the rare diseases' field (equal access to quality healthcare, easier access to orphan drugs, better qualification of medical professionals, scientific research, social rehabilitation of rare diseases patients, patients' associations empowerment, raising public awareness, etc.).
The NAPRD biggest success so far is the adoption and launch of the Bulgarian National Plan for Rare Diseases (2009-2013). It placed Bulgaria among the few states in EU with such a program and brought tremendous hope to all the Bulgarian rare diseases patients. The plan covers all the major rare diseases topics and one year after its official start some positive outputs could be already observed. So, it is a huge push for all the NAPRD members to continue their work.
2010 Rare Disease Day occupies very important place at NAPRD agenda. The scheduled events are described at the corresponding page of this section. Bulgaria's first Lady – Mrs. Zorka Parvanova is once more the official patron of the event as it was 2008 and 2009. If you are interested in NAPRD activities and would like to participate in Rare Disease Day, please do let us know.
