Rare Disease Day in Austria
Rare diseases affect about 400.000 people in Austria. Collectively, rare diseases are not rare. However, for the majority of individual diseases information is scarce and medical care and social services are insufficient Families often struggle to get the support and information that they need.
Thanks to the efforts of our members and their partners, rare diseases have had increasing recognition from public authorities in our country and discussions are underway for a National Plan for RD.
This year the 2nd March for Rare Diseases will start at Vienna`s Opera to Stephansplatz and end with an indoor meeting at the Hofburg castle. There will be a small buffet and a press conference. The event will take place 27th of February 2010, 10 am (see poster)
Different support groups of Salzburg will meet at the Salzburg hospital and answer questions as well as represent their work.
If someone in your country would like to get involved, what should they do ? who should they contact ?
If you are in Austria and would like to participate in Rare Disease Day please do let us know so we publicise as many events as possible. Please contact christine.schragel@meduniwien.ac.at
